WHERE IS CANBERRA?
The founders of Australia's capital city knew what they were doing.
They chose a location at the heart of the nation, between our two largest cities, Sydney and Melbourne. Much of what’s best about Australia can be found in the capital.
Canberra is located on one of Australia's great rivers, the Murrumbidgee, and its tributary the Molonglo. It's ringed by mountains, and even the hilltops within the city limits have been preserved as nature parks. Just two hours away to the south are the ski fields of Australia's highest mountain range, and a similar distance to the east is the unspoiled Pacific Coast. Here you'll find mile upon mile of sandy beaches, without the crowds!
While Canberra has a bustling city life of its own, it's close to other centres of attraction. Australia's largest city, Sydney, is less than a three hour drive, with high-speed motorway all the way. Australia's shopping mecca, Melbourne, is just a 45-minute flight, with low airfares usually available.
